Monster Builder

Monster Builder is an interactive browser-based experiment that guides the user through the process of creating a personal monster via a futuristic “biometric reading.” The interface uses a laboratory and sci-fi-inspired visual language, with concepts such as Landmarks, Biometric Reading, and DNA Lock, making the experience feel like a blend of a monster generator, biometric scanner, and digital experiment.

The idea

Most web forms ask for input and then use it. Here the asking is the story: a futuristic "biometric reading" that turns the visitor's own input into the monster it builds. There's no separate "results" screen — the process is the product.

The decisions

No framework. A short, linear experience with a handful of screens and no state that needs to survive a page change doesn't need a component tree or a router — that would be more code to maintain for the same result. All state lives in plain JavaScript, and the transitions between screens are plain CSS, not an animation library. That keeps it fast to load and easy to change.

What was built

A short, direct browser experience in a laboratory and sci-fi visual language — Landmarks, Biometric Reading, DNA Lock — where the interface is the fiction rather than navigation around it. Built as an interactive, state-based UI in plain CSS and JavaScript.
